It is without a doubt that during this pandemic, Tiktok has been the fastest-growing social media platform with billions of users all over the world. It gave opportunities to a lot of people to have a platform to express their opinion and creativity.
The goal is to amass a big following. In a platform with billions of users, how do you stand out? It may seem to be an impossible dream but to Julie Ann Baltar, a dream is nothing if you don’t have the guts to pursue it.
A pursuer of dreams, this 19-year-old Tiktok user currently has almost 47 thousand followers and a total of 1.2 million views on the said platform. She mentioned that being true to herself has helped her come a long way, it’s easier to portray your authentic self than to create a facade of someone that you’re not.
According to Julie Ann, when a video of her went viral for the first time in 2020, she was shocked. She uploaded the video intending to make her friends and family happy but it ended up a surprise that blew up with over 300 thousand views. Though it was a dream, she was not expecting it to happen.
Considering her growing number of followers, we also asked her if she considers herself an influencer already, and she directly answered that as of now, she doesn’t consider herself an influencer yet. To her, she is more of a content creator.
“Ang influencer kasi ay tao na may kakayahan na maka-apekto sa desisyon ng audience niya (An influencer is someone who has the ability to influence someone on their decision),” she added. As of now, she is a content creator who aspires to influence people through her platform.
With her growing number of followers, she mentioned that there are times when she gets pressured into creating content. There was even a time when someone accused her of being arrogant, and that her growing popularity is changing her just because she was not able to upload a video for quite a while.
“Yung platform ko na ito dapat maingat ako eh dahil pwede ako maka apekto sa ibang tao sa pag-upload ko ng videos, pwedeng positively o negatively (I should always be Careful with my platform, every video that I upload will affect someone be it positively or negatively),” she said addressing the delay on video uploads.
To Julie Ann, being a content creator is a responsibility so she is very careful in uploading videos, only wanting to present the best quality content.
We are all aware that being an influencer can provide someone with an opportunity to be known. For Julie Ann, she wants her platform to be a leverage for her to pursue her passion for arts.
Having a conversation with someone like her gives us a closer glimpse of the reality of a content creator, no one ever started big. Like her journey, she had a small beginning, and every step she makes brings her a step closer to her dreams.
To succeed in life, dreaming is not enough, you have to take action. You have to work hard and pursue that dream.
And like what Julie Ann said, in the journey of pursuing our dreams, may we never forget our reason, and in times when we feel so lost and on the verge of giving up, may we always remember our core, the main reason why we are in the pursuit of achieving our dreams.
