Adamson University’s Pep Squad rode their way up from bronze to silver in the 2022 UAAP Cheerdance Competition as they impressed the whole crowd with their western country-themed routine on Sunday, May 20, 2022, at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.
The UAAP conducted its Cheerdance Competition after two years of suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, setting new guidelines with three-minute routines, without the appearance of drummers, and limiting the teams from 25 to 15 members.
However, these restrictions were no problem for the Adamson Pep Squad, making the former champions (NU Pep Squad) take their position from last season as third place, receiving a total score of 688.5, a 7.5 point lead over National University.
“So country music is very difficult to execute, so ’yun ’yung naging challenge sa’kin nu’ng pandemic to come up with this routine. To come up with this lineup, sobrang nakaka-pressure kasi 15 dancers lang. I think I've chosen the right people to dance this routine,” Adamson Pep Squad head coach, Jam Lorenzo said.
(English translation: “So country music is very difficult to execute, and it was a challenge for me to come up with this routine during the pandemic. To come up with this lineup was pressuring with only 15 dancers. I think I've chosen the right people to dance this routine.”)
In a past interview, head coach Jam Lorenzo said that his team resembled a dark horse, seeing so much potential which explained how he accepted a challenge to create difficult yet extraordinary routines.
Without a doubt, the AdU Pep Squad showed up as a dark horse, as they left the people in awe with their mind-blowing execution, making the word of the day, #YEEHAWakanahimo.
