Amidst their campaign for the upcoming elections, Presidential candidate and current Vice President Leni Robredo and her team were bombarded with online links claiming to show her daughter, Aika Robredo's "sex video".

Robredo and her team were quick to dismiss this as fake news, claiming that these were mere "distractions" that aimed to delay their momentum during the campaign period.

"Ang mas malalim na goal ng ganitong tactic: 'yung manggigil tayo at magwala sa social media para awayin natin ang mga tao at hindi tayo maka-convert," says VP Spokesperson Atty. Barry Gutierrez in a recent Facebook post on April 11, 2022.

(English translation: "The hidden goal of this tactic is to upset us, and for us to cause a commotion on social media. For us to argue with those people and stop us from converting them.")

Senatorial aspirant Chel Diokno also had a statement about the scandal.

"Alam nating desperado na sila dahil sa paglakas ni VP," (We know how desperate they are due to VP's inclining success) Atty. Diokno wrote in one Facebook post the same day, "But it takes a special kind of evil to resort to mysogynistic attacks against the kids. Ito ba ang uri ng pulitika na gusto natin apra sa ating mga anak? (Is this the kind of politics we want for our children?)."

The supposed scandal has been receiving an uproar of angry reactions from supporters and non-supporters alike. #ProtectLeniAndFamily became a trending topic on Twitter on the afternoon of April 11.

Through the same platform, VP Robredo issued her own statement.

"[The] best antidote to fake news is the TRUTH." She wrote in her Twitter post. "Let us not lose focus. Tuloy tuloy lang ang paggawa ng kabutihan." (Let the acts of kindness be continuous.)

Furthermore, VP Robredo and her team have been researching proper legal action against those who spread the fake links.
