The Philippines' first Olympic champion defeats another Olympic gold medalist from Thailand. Although she was overtaken by the opponent that lifted 93kg to Hidilyn's 92kg in the snatch portion, the Pinay weightlifter did carry off the clean and jerk.

Tanasan Sanikun lifted only 110kg compared to Hidilyn's 114kg which resulted in the total winning score of 206kg for Hidilyn and 203kg for the Thai athlete.

“...I prepared for Asian games, I will prepare for the world championship, I will prepare for the Olympic qualifying. So, this is the beginning of my journey towards Paris 2024,” said Hidilyn.

After the victory in the SEA Games, the champion prepares to take on the coming Paris Olympics 2024 to compete and lift another win again.
